Not so long time ago i announced the release of a tool that can send direct mass messages via twitter to multiple followers in the same time. This tool can be found here.

As you can see in this screenshot from my Google Analytics account, this tool have quite a success and after the homepage and the vSlider plugin page is the third visited page on this site. This, and a message sent by one of the users makes me think if things are clear enough for everyone about what is the purpose and how to use this tool.

First of all, this is not a way to broke twitter rules or a tool for SPAMMING others. When first i was thinking of such a tool i had in my mind a group who share the same interest but they are not located in the same place and some information can be made public but some is just for specific followers, because we are speaking about twitter here, right? Ok, might be that you are a golf equipment seller and some of your followers are directly related to your business and you are closer to them and made a group but not so close that you are changing emails. In this case is quite handy to send not public information to them using a tool and not writing over and over again the same message.

How Is This Tool Working Anyway?

Well, you just add this group of followers and the message you want to send and for each follower the message will be duplicated and send out using the initial information.

How Many Messages Can I Send?

Twitter have a limit for how many messages can be sent in a single day. Read Twitter TOS here. But if you are subscribed to a service that send automatic messages (like welcome messages) they will count to your daily limit.

What Information Is Stored?

NO information is stored and this is why i write this post. Here’s a message from Helen I’ve got today:

Hi, I signed up for your service to mass-dm on Twitter a few days ago from my account (Helen’s account). Apparently, it flooded the system and my dm feature was turned off. I assume there are unsent messages in your “To Send” box from me.  BUT. PLEASE DON’T SEND THE MESSAGES, once my twitter account is fixed,  I don’t want to flood my twitter account again. And now, the messages I posted to you are days old and irrelevant, anyway. Thank you, Helen

No information is stored as i said, so there is NO unsent messages hold to be sent later, in fact, there is NO send box at all. The script do not hold any information and do not use a data base and I CANNOT control the process at all.

After the “Submit My Message” button is pushed a report from twitter will be displayed of which user got the message and which are not, there will be no other attempts to send the massage again.

This Is A Safe Service?

To be honest with you, by the time i was writing the script till today my conclusion is that it’s not worth sending a private message to someone who’s not sharing his email so i did not use it for a long time, i don’t even know if it’s working with twitter current API.

In conclusion, there is NO guarantee for using this tool and if you decide to do so, you are doing it at your own risk as it is specified here.

I am looking for someone who can build a jQuery plugin similar to SmoothGallery (see a demo here). This plugin should be based on jQuery because WordPress use jQuery as core JavaScript library and conflicts should be avoided. Any idea is welcomed, i do not want a jQuery version of the SmoothGallery.

The code should be as light as possible. Please have in mind that a slow loading page might bring the visitor to leave the page. The plugin should work fine in all major browsers (starting from IE6) as well.

What’s in it for me?

There will be only the good feeling that you are giving back something to the community and off course the credits. No payment will be given for this as i do not charge for many of my work. My opinion is that offering professionally products for free give you the chance to build a “brand” for yourself and will pay of later. Should be written as WordPress plugin?

No, it should be a jQuery plugin and the rest will do it my self. This is where i consider my self an expert, so do not worry about that.

Wp Remix Theme Dropdown

The guys from Wp Remix say “we do not guarantee that our theme is working with all plugins out there” and they are perfectly right. This is not their issue and i decided to write a special post about how to solve the dropdown problem.

What is really happening with the dropdown menu?

Well, the dropdown menu is wrapped in a div called “nav” and it’s position is declared as relative from the “style.css” file from the Wp Remix theme folder. A quick explanation about relative positioning is that the browser can read the command from the css file as 3D definition, in other words, who is on top of who in the case of two elements are on top of each other. In our case the navigation ID is declared as relative but not set what is the exact position in the Z axis (where x and y define the plan axis and z the depth).

How to solve the Wp Remix dropdown and vSlider dropdown?

Ok! All you need to do is edit your “style.css” file from the Wp Remix theme folder or edit the style sheet from your WordPress admin panel and find the following lines:

#nav {
width:840px;
height:28px;
position:relative;
margin:0 auto 5px;
}

Now change this lines to:

#nav {
width:840px;
height:28px;
position:relative;
margin:0 auto 5px;
z-index: 99;
}

Or you can just add the following line to it: z-index: 99;

Now you have set the navigation dropdown position which will be on top of vSlider.

You should change this code anyhow!

It is not really matter what type of java script you will use on Wp Remix theme (can be a YouTube video as well in your post), your dropdown menu will go under it and you’ll face the same problem. Changing the code as showed before will solve this problem.

What about using Wp Remix

This post is in no way intended to change your mind about using Wp Remix theme. I recommend you Wp Remix because it’s a really stable WordPress theme and have almost unlimited options. My personal opinion is that the guys behind it made a really good job!

Off course… having a well optimized site is not enough for getting a high page rank. You have to think about wise back linking in order to get a high page rank and get organic traffic to your site.

Every one of us have a list with favorite twitter friends or followers and from time to time it would be nice to be able to send them an announcement but it is a little time consuming. I found my self in this situation and i thought, what if i try to make such a tool.
